OBST IS / FIVE DIMENSIONS
BEHAVIORAL ORIENTATION
O / S / T / P / G

Not a label. A structure for understanding choices.

OBST explores five relative orientations: where decisions begin, what feels threatening, how reward and trust are recognized, how recovery starts, and which tasks support performance.

EXPLORE THE FIVE DIMENSIONS ↓
01 / FRAMEWORK

Five dimensions, five different questions.

Different reactions to the same setting rarely have one explanation. Decision standards, stress signals, the meaning of reward, and ways of recovering may all diverge.

OBST uses five axes—O, S, T, P, and G. Each is a directional continuum, not a ranking of better and worse people. Interpretation depends on the entire pattern and real-life context.

FIVE ORIENTATIONS

Five lenses for understanding people.

O

Origin & Orientation

Where do decisions begin?

Do you first consult collective rules and roles, or independently evaluated standards and experience?

Both patterns can be helpful depending on autonomy, shared expectations, and role clarity.

N / shared organizational standards
↕
C / personal standards
S

Stress & Threat

What signals threat first?

Is attention drawn first to changes and reactions outside, or to tension and mismatch with internal standards?

Sensitivity can support early risk recognition and can also become draining in particular environments.

O / external threat sensitivity
↕
U / internal threat sensitivity
T

Trust & Benefit

What evidence creates reward and trust?

Do long-range outcomes build confidence, or do visible short-term wins and feedback provide momentum?

Sustainable motivation often combines a long horizon with concrete signals of progress.

V / broader, long-term reward
↕
R / immediate, concrete reward
P

Painkiller & Recovery

What is restored first after difficulty?

Do you seek to recover by taking action, or by first restoring predictability and security?

Neither immediate action nor stabilizing is universally preferable. Context changes the effective sequence.

A / active recovery
↕
S / stabilizing recovery
G

Potential & Job Fit

Which tasks convert potential into results?

Are strengths more likely to emerge through refinement and mastery, or through solving new problems and exploring alternatives?

Task fit is not a final judgment of ability; learning, role demands, and environment also matter.

T / repetitive mastery
↕
X / creative exploration
02 / HOW TO ANSWER

No correct answer. Only a closer fit.

Items describe decisions and responses in recognizable work and social situations. Select what is typically closer to your everyday experience, rather than what seems more impressive or desirable.

The operational specification calls for 60 items: 12 per axis. Item direction and balance matter. The exact questions and scoring are governed by the approved original assessment source.

03 / READING RESULTS

The relationship between scores matters.

Pole Position is designed to display both sides of each continuum. Instead of showing only the dominant letter, it should clarify the direction and relative intensity of that orientation.

Relative Salience follows the fixed O·S·T·P·G sequence. Strengths and challenges should be interpreted with concrete situations and potential next steps rather than by scores alone.

04 / RESPONSIBLE USE

A starting point, not a diagnosis.

OBST is not a medical or psychiatric diagnostic instrument. It should not independently determine hiring, personnel evaluation, or treatment. Claims about reliability, validity, and cross-language equivalence must reflect completed research.

A score does not determine capability or future outcomes. Roles, experience, learning, and environments also shape behavior. The best use of results is to ask better questions.

Rather than placing you inside one label, we examine five perspectives.
